Greece joins COMMANDS program to develop robotic military technology

The Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation (ELKAK) has finalized national contracts for the COMMANDS program, a European Defence Fund initiative aimed at developing next-generation military technologies. The project focuses on creating systems where manned and unmanned vehicles can operate together, such as a manned vehicle guiding a series of autonomous drones or robotic vehicles.

Greece is participating as a technology developer rather than just an end-user. The domestic portion of the project involves approximately 237,000 euros dedicated to high-level research and development, including artificial intelligence, software, system architecture, and complex simulation testing. These technologies are intended to enhance strategic capabilities in sensitive areas like the Evros region and the Eastern Aegean islands by reducing personnel exposure to danger through autonomous supply transport and networked robotic formations.
