Greece labor market: Average salaries rise amid narrowing age wage gap

Recent data from e-EFKA reveals significant shifts in the Greek labor market. The real average salary for workers under the age of 30 has increased by more than 40% over the last four years, narrowing the age-based wage gap. This trend is attributed to increases in the minimum wage and limited wage growth for older age groups. However, despite these percentage gains, many young workers still earn gross monthly salaries below 1,000 euros.

In the broader private sector, the average full-time monthly salary reached 1,404.79 euros in January, representing a 3.38% increase over the past year. There is a notable disparity based on company size: businesses with fewer than 10 employees report an average salary of 1,075.95 euros, which is approximately 72% of the 1,494.62 euros offered by larger firms with more than 10 employees.

Sector-specific data shows that construction wages rose by 12.47% over the year. While full-time female daily wages stand at 89.63% of those of men, this gender gap disappears in part-time employment. The largest employment sectors include wholesale and retail trade (21.29%), manufacturing (13.08%), and real estate management (12.04%).
