Greece Labor Minister addresses Pizza Fan and Choriatiko worker concerns
Greek Labor and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus has addressed the ongoing situation regarding the companies Pizza Fan and Choriatiko. During an interview, Kerameus clarified that there are currently no administrative orders to close either business, meaning all employment contracts remain active.
Regarding Pizza Fan, the Minister outlined three potential scenarios for the company: continued operation, a possible acquisition, or closure. She emphasized that as long as contracts are active, the employer is legally obligated to pay wages and social security contributions. In the event of a closure, the state will intervene to ensure the immediate application of unemployment benefits.
Additionally, Kerameus discussed broader labor market reforms, including proposed changes to parental leave. The new regulations aim to allow parents more flexibility by removing the mandatory one-year waiting period between leaves for multiple children. The Minister also noted the government's focus on protecting workers from the unregulated use of algorithmic systems and artificial intelligence.
