Greece launches €350 million Hellas Space 2.0 satellite program

Greece has announced the Hellas Space 2.0 national space programme, allocating a €350 million budget to develop a domestic satellite ecosystem. The initiative, presented by the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence and managed by the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post, draws funding from the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund and is being implemented in partnership with the European Space Agency.

The programme targets three main pillars: Earth‑observation satellites (including very high‑resolution optical and thermal imaging for civil protection, environmental monitoring and security), secure satellite communications, and a broader space‑data infrastructure. Contracts are structured so that Greek industry provides more than 50 % of the work, with an emphasis on local design, assembly, testing and data ownership. The roadmap runs to 2030, aiming to shift Greece from a satellite customer to a producer of space infrastructure.
