Greece launches 72‑installment debt‑relief scheme for public and private debts
The Ministry of Finance announced a phased rollout of new tools to restructure debts owed to the state, social security funds and private lenders. The first measure allows eligible debts incurred up to 31 December 2023 to be repaid in up to 72 monthly installments. The electronic application platform for e‑EFKA is already live, and the AADE platform is expected to open by 20 July.
On 26 July a revised extrajudicial mechanism will become operational, extending eligibility to debts of €5,000 or more owed to the public sector or to financial creditors. A third step, effective 21 September, adds a protective tool for the primary residence through the same mechanism.
Statistics released by the General Secretariat of the Financial Sector show that in June 2026 there were 1,800 new adjustments covering €458.6 million of initial debt, bringing the cumulative total to 64,406 successful adjustments for €19.67 billion of debt. Vulnerable households accounted for 12.5 % of June adjustments, and 584 debtors obtained suspension of enforcement actions to protect their property. Bilateral settlements with the four largest servicers (Intrum, Cepal, DoValue, Qquant) recorded 4,821 cases valued at €399.3 million, mainly mortgage loans. The myEGDIXlive service recorded nearly 25,000 virtual appointments in the first half of 2026, supporting borrowers through the new schemes.
