Greece launches agricultural guarantee fund for farmers
The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food, in collaboration with the Hellenic Bank for Economic Development (ETE), is launching the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Fund to improve access to credit for farmers and agrifood businesses.
The first mechanism, the Agri-Food Sector Guarantee Fund, utilizes 80 million euros in public funds from the 2023-2027 CAP Strategic Plan to mobilize approximately 250 million euros in loans. This fund provides a 70% guarantee on loans, reducing the collateral required from producers. Investment loans can range from 25,000 to 3.5 million euros with terms of 2 to 15 years, while working capital loans range from 25,000 to 500,000 euros with terms of 2 to 5 years. Additionally, interest rate subsidies of up to 4% for up to four years and advisory support are available.
Two further financial tools are being planned: one for small loans between 10,000 and 50,000 euros, and another specifically targeting young farmers under 40. Applications are expected to open in autumn 2026, following the selection of participating banks. The eligibility period for the fund extends until September 30, 2029.
