Greece launches development of National Cancer Action Plan

The Greek Ministry of Health has launched the development of a new National Cancer Action Plan (ESDK) following the first meeting of its dedicated working group on August 31. The initiative aims to create a modern, actionable roadmap that integrates existing and upcoming interventions into a unified national strategy.

The plan is designed to cover the entire patient journey, including prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, survival, and palliative care. It seeks to leverage advancements in data, research, digital technology, and innovation to improve patient outcomes and quality of life while reducing healthcare inequalities.

To ensure an inclusive process, the working group includes representatives from the state, the medical and scientific communities, academia, research institutions, and patient advocacy groups. The strategy intends to move beyond a mere list of current actions, establishing clear priorities, measurable goals, specific timelines, and rigorous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Christina-Maria Kravvari, General Secretary of Public Health, is coordinating the effort alongside Giorgos Kapetanakis, President of the Hellenic Cancer Federation.
