Greece launches ‘Dialogue with Production’ to support agricultural sector
Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, has launched a new initiative titled ‘Dialogue with Production.’ This organized series of meetings aims to address urgent issues facing the country's primary sector through direct engagement with representatives of farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen, and beekeepers. The initiative began with a meeting with the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives (ETHΕΑΣ) and will include discussions on agricultural subsidies, the transition to new payment systems, the Greek Livestock Recovery Plan, and the upcoming CAP 2028–2034 framework.
During a meeting in Pieria, Lazos Dontis, President of the Agricultural Cooperative of Sampsos, highlighted the necessity of supporting both production and processing to ensure the sector's competitiveness. He noted that while the cooperative is expanding its activities—including plans for a nut processing unit and an olive oil mill—there is a lack of a specific subsidy framework for such investments in olive oil mills for agricultural cooperatives. The dialogue seeks to integrate these practical needs into future policy decisions.
