Greece launches free skin cancer screening for general population
The Greek Ministry of Health is launching a new initiative to provide free skin cancer screening to the general population. Funded by the NSRF (ESPA), the program aims to integrate prevention into the core of the National Health System.
Initial screenings will be conducted through the Primary Healthcare network to ensure accessibility. Special emphasis will be placed on high-risk groups, including farmers, fishermen, outdoor workers, and residents of remote or island regions. The program will utilize modern technologies such as telemedicine, specialized equipment, and artificial intelligence to support healthcare professionals.
If suspicious findings are identified, Reference Centers will handle specialized evaluations and manage the referral process for further examination or treatment. The initiative will leverage health centers, mobile health teams, and specialized clinics within university and general hospitals across the country.
