Greece launches public consultation on National Water Strategy

Greece's Ministry of Environment and Energy (ΥΠΕΝ) has opened its first public consultation on a National Water Strategy, aiming to create a modern, integrated framework for managing the country's water resources. The strategy is framed around three pillars: water as a fundamental right and public‑health guarantee; climate resilience through prevention, preparedness and risk management for droughts and floods; and modern governance based on transparent, data‑driven decision‑making and institutional coordination.

The plan aligns with EU water directives, EU water‑related strategies, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It seeks to address existing challenges such as fragmented administration, financing, and the need for digital tools to monitor and protect water ecosystems, while ensuring equitable access to quality water for all citizens.
