Greece launches subsidized jobs for 8,000 unemployed aged 55+

The Public Employment Service (DYPA) in Greece will roll out a new subsidised employment scheme in July 2026 targeting 8,000 unemployed citizens aged 55 and over. Participants will receive mixed monthly wages of about €920 and full social‑security coverage for contracts lasting up to 24 months.

Positions will be placed in municipalities, local‑government bodies and other public‑sector entities, covering a range of occupations such as administrative and clerical work, cleaning, technical trades and support staff. DYPA will fund 75 % of the wage and insurance costs (up to €750 per month) while the hiring institution covers the remainder. Selection will be made through DYPA’s digital registry, bypassing the usual ASEP procedures to speed up placement and help workers acquire the pension contributions they lack.
