Greece leads push for European online child protection framework

During the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, Greece's Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, Dimitris Papastegiou, emphasized the country's leadership in advocating for the protection of minors online. The discussions focused on the necessity of a unified European framework to address digital risks.

Key initiatives presented include the promotion of a common digital literacy threshold, reliable age verification methods, and safer digital service design. Greece is currently leading discussions regarding the establishment of a minimum age limit for accessing social media platforms.

Furthermore, the government has implemented a National Strategy for the Protection of Minors from Internet Addiction and developed technological solutions such as 'Kids Wallet' in close cooperation with the European Commission.
