Greece limits diesel price rise after fuel subsidy ends

On 1 July the 15‑cent‑per‑litre subsidy for diesel fuel in Greece expired. The average retail price rose by only four euro‑cents per litre to €1.648, meaning about 74 % of the expected increase was absorbed before reaching consumers. The price remains well below the level recorded during the U.S.–Iran cease‑fire agreement two weeks earlier and stays lower than the EU average, which the government cites as a success in keeping transport costs down.

Officials said the modest impact confirms the effectiveness of measures taken to stabilise the fuel market during the recent Middle‑East energy turmoil. With international oil prices trending downwards, they expect further de‑escalation of fuel prices in the coming weeks, supporting the supply chain and broader cost of goods and services.
