Greece maintains need for communication channels with Turkey

Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis stated in Parliament that the Greek government believes maintaining communication channels with Turkey is essential to reduce tensions and prevent crises, even when legal disagreements are fundamental. He noted that while Turkey may not abandon its long-standing positions, open dialogue is necessary.

Gerapetritis asserted that the Greek people trust the government's ability to manage crises and defend national interests with strength. He suggested that recent Turkish reactions stem from Greece taking proactive measures to defend its sovereignty and sovereign rights in the field.

The discussion followed inquiries from MP Alexandros Kazamias regarding Turkey's intention to establish two maritime parks near Kastellorizo and between Samothrace and Lemnos. Kazamias raised concerns that these parks would be located in international waters surrounding Greek islands and above the Greek continental shelf.
