Greece mandates electronic invoicing for small businesses

Small and medium-sized enterprises in Greece with annual turnovers up to €1 million are required to transition to mandatory electronic invoicing. This new regulation applies to all transactions between businesses within Greece, as well as sales of goods and services to businesses located in non-EU countries.

Businesses must issue invoices through a system that meets technical and tax specifications, ensuring data is transmitted in real-time to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) via the myDATA platform. To facilitate this, the AADE offers free digital tools, including the ‘timologio’ desktop application and the ‘myDATAapp’ for mobile devices. Alternatively, companies may opt for a certified private ERP provider.

A transitional period is in place from October 1 until the end of December to allow for smooth adjustment. Full compliance is required by January 1, 2027. Failure to issue electronic invoices is treated as a failure to issue an invoice, with potential fines reaching up to €2,500 per violation, depending on the accounting system and transaction type.
