Greece mandates hive declarations for active beekeepers

Active beekeepers in several Greek regions, including Magnesia, the Sporades, and Castoria, are required to submit mandatory declarations of their owned hives. For the 2026 period in Magnesia, the submission window runs from September 1 to November 20, 2026.

Failure to submit these declarations on time can result in significant administrative sanctions. These penalties include the loss of eligibility for national or EU support and enhancement measures for the beekeeping sector, loss of insurance coverage through the Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization (ELGA), and the inability to claim compensation for natural disasters or adverse weather conditions.

In Castoria, beekeepers are also reminded of their obligation to declare hive holdings annually between September 1 and November 20. Additionally, beekeepers must declare their annual honey production and the quantities of products traded on the market at least twice a year. Submissions can be made in person at local agricultural economy directorates or digitally through the Ministry of Rural Development and Food's application.
