Greece mandates replacement of paper driving licenses
In Greece, old paper-based driving licenses must be replaced with the new European-style plastic card format by January 19, 2033, after which the old documents will no longer be valid.
While replacement is not immediately mandatory for all drivers, it becomes compulsory in several specific scenarios. These include when a driver reaches the age of 65, when the license is lost, stolen, or significantly damaged, or when a driver needs to add a new vehicle category or update personal details.
Drivers aged 65 and older must renew their licenses every three years, while those over 80 require more frequent renewals and additional medical examinations. The replacement process can be completed electronically via the gov.gr platform using Taxisnet credentials, provided the user has a registered photo and signature through the myPhoto service.
