Greece marks 30 years since the killings of Tasos Isaak and Solomos Solomos

On 9 July 2026, the community of Kerínia in Aigialía hosted a memorial ceremony to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1996 murders of Tasos Isaak and Solomos Solomos in Cyprus. The event, co‑organized by the Aigialía municipality and the local community, featured the victims’ mother and daughter, local officials, and cultural performances, emphasizing historical memory, justice and freedom.

A day later, in the town of Leonidio, about 40 motorcyclists and 60 walkers took part in a two‑day remembrance, culminating in a ceremony at the Fabrika Cultural Centre. Participants signed a friendship declaration, listened to a choir, and laid a wreath on the grave of naval officer Nikolaos Panagos. Organisers highlighted the enduring value of freedom, quoting the slogan “the most noble purpose of life is freedom.”
