Greece marks World Restart a Heart Day with record CPR training
On October 16, various health awareness initiatives took place across Greece to mark World Restart a Heart Day and World Anesthesia Day.
A major panhellenic event organized by KIDS SAVE LIVES saw 77,195 students from 1,227 schools participate in synchronized cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. This effort set a new national record, surpassing the previous high of 60,650 participants. The central event was held at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition, with many schools joining via live stream.
In Heraklion, the Melissidios Foundation donated six automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the municipality, which will be placed in local schools to enhance safety for students and staff.
Additionally, the Greek Red Cross participated in international awareness campaigns regarding cardiac arrest, emphasizing the importance of immediate bystander intervention. Meanwhile, the Hellenic Society of Anesthesiology commemorated the 180th anniversary of the first public demonstration of surgical anesthesia to highlight the evolving role of anesthesiologists in patient safety and life support.
