Greece mass transit disruptions expected during educational strikes

Mass transit services in Athens and Thessaloniki are expected to face disruptions on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, due to nationwide educational strikes involving students, teachers, and university staff.

In Athens, metro, tram, bus, and suburban railway services are expected to operate normally as no transit strikes have been announced. However, the 'Panepistimio' metro station on Line 2 is scheduled to close at 10:00 following police orders to accommodate a rally at the Propylaea. Passengers should anticipate potential delays or route changes due to demonstrations.

In Thessaloniki, five metro stations—Demokratias, Venizelou, Agia Sofia, Syntrivani, and Panepistimio—will suspend operations starting at 09:00 due to a planned gathering at the Venizelos Monument. No specific reopening time has been provided for these stations.
