Greece men's water polo clinches first World Cup gold in Sydney
Greece's men's water polo team captured its first gold medal at a major international tournament, defeating Hungary 15‑14 in the World Cup final held in Sydney, Australia.
Coach Theodoros Vlahos called the triumph “a very important moment for Greek water polo” and said the squad would not stop here. Captain Stelios Argyropoulos scored the decisive goal with seconds remaining, sealing the historic win.
Deputy Sports Minister Giannis Vroustsis publicly congratulated the players and arranged a reception at Athens' Eleftherios Venizelos airport for the returning champions.
