Greece considers permanent pension increases and wage reforms
The Greek government is considering significant economic measures aimed at increasing pensions and wages. Proposals under review include transforming the annual pension supplement into a permanent fixture, potentially raising it to levels comparable to the national pension, with some scenarios suggesting increases of 400 to 450 euros.
Additionally, there are discussions regarding the reinstatement of a half-month 13th salary for public sector employees. These measures are intended to be permanent and subject to annual increases based on fiscal conditions and economic performance.
Regarding labor, there is ongoing debate concerning the minimum wage. Discussions focus on the necessity of increasing the minimum wage to protect workers from inflation and the long-term goal of moving the 60% of Greek employees currently in the low-wage category toward higher earnings. Projections suggest the minimum wage could reach 1,000 euros gross by 2027.
