Margaritis Schoinas visits Pieria to support Greek agricultural production
Greek Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, conducted a visit to Pieria to discuss the future of the primary sector and support for local producers. During a meeting in Kontariotissa, Schoinas highlighted several financial tools aimed at strengthening the agricultural economy, including new Improvement Plans totaling 263.5 million euros and the new Agricultural Entrepreneurship Fund, which provides 365 million euros in loans.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining high production levels, stating, “Greece does not have the luxury of producing less.” He also addressed the transition of the agricultural subsidy system to the myAGRO platform of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to ensure that funds reach actual producers through increased data cross-referencing and controls.
As part of his tour, Schoinas visited the Zeus Kiwi facilities to observe the production and export dynamics of the region's kiwi industry. He stressed the importance of connecting primary production with standardization and export capabilities to increase the added value and income for local farmers. The visit concluded in Karitsa with the inauguration of the 21st Agricultural Products, Technology, and Craft Exhibition.
