Greece extends supermarket price reduction initiative until year-end

The Greek Ministry of Development has confirmed the extension of the voluntary National Price Reduction Initiative through December 31, 2026. Following a meeting between Development Minister Takis Theodorakakos, SEV President Spyros Theodoropoulos, and SEVT President Ioannis Giotis, industry leaders agreed to continue the measures to support Greek households.

The upcoming phase for November and December will feature a revised list of approximately 1,000 products. This represents a shift from the initial 1,750 items, as the 400 school-related products from the previous cycle are being removed. More than 600 products from the original list are expected to remain in the initiative.

Additionally, a new targeted intervention titled ‘Holidays for All’ is being prepared for the Christmas and New Year period. Expected to launch in mid-December, this package aims to reduce prices by up to 25% on high-demand festive items, including meat, cheeses, pasta, milk, flour, traditional pastries, wine, and soft drinks. The Hellenic Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection will soon release the detailed list of participating product codes and specific discount rates.
