Greece Ministry of Development reports 230M+ euros in research funding
The Greek Ministry of Development has released a report regarding the funding of research and innovation to address opposition concerns over the utilization of European resources. According to the Ministry, out of the 348.5 million euros committed by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK) for the 2016-2030 period, 278 million euros had been absorbed as of June 30, 2026.
Specifically, over 232 million euros were allocated for research actions during the 2019-2026 period. This includes approximately 68.3 million euros from the Recovery Fund, which supported 279 research projects approved in 2022. Additionally, the Ministry noted that 370 million euros have been invested in infrastructure and equipment for the country's research entities.
Development Minister Takis Theodorakis has reached an agreement with the ELIDEK administration to fully integrate the research budget into the National Development Program for the next four years. This move aims to ensure a stable source of resources through transparency and accountability while managing fiscal costs.
