Greece Ministry of Education announces 4,789 permanent teacher appointments

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has announced the permanent appointment of 4,789 teachers to vacant positions in primary and secondary education. The recruitment process follows the provisions of Law 4589/2019 and includes special education teachers, general education teachers, and staff for music schools.

The breakdown of appointments includes 421 special education and training teachers (287 in primary education, 1,090 in secondary education, and 44 in multidisciplinary evaluation centers) and 3,368 general education teachers (2,403 in primary education, 890 in secondary education, and 75 in music schools). Additionally, 470 permanent appointments were made for Special Educational Personnel and Special Assistant Personnel (EEP-EVP).

The Ministry noted that it was not possible to fill all available positions in special education due to a lack of qualified candidates, particularly in the Mathematics (PE03) and Physical Sciences (PE04) sectors. Minister Sofia Zacharaki emphasized that the stable presence of teachers in schools is essential for building trust with students.
