Greece recruits 6,683 substitute teachers for 2026-2027 school year

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has announced the recruitment of 6,683 substitute teachers and special education personnel for the 2026-2027 academic year. This recruitment phase places a significant emphasis on Special Education, with over 4,000 positions dedicated to supporting students with disabilities or special needs.

The breakdown of new hires includes 5,880 teachers for primary and secondary education and 778 members of Special Education and Assistant Personnel (EEP and EVP). Additionally, 25 teachers will be placed in Public Onanissos Schools, and 15 temporary substitutes were allocated to the Sibitanidion Public School of Arts and Crafts.

To assist teachers moving to island regions, a joint initiative between the Ministries of Education and Maritime Affairs has secured ferry ticket discounts of up to 50% for both passengers and vehicles. Participating companies include SEAJETS, Levante Ferries Group, Goutos Lines, Minoan Lines, and Attica Group. These discounts are valid during specific scheduled periods throughout the school year, including the autumn, Christmas, Easter, and summer terms. To claim the discounts, educators must present their appointment decision and identity documents at participating agencies.
