Greece Ministry of Education launches MINEDU TALKS platform

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religion, and Sports has launched 'MINEDU TALKS', a new digital platform designed to facilitate direct dialogue between the political leadership and student councils. The initiative allows 15-member student councils from both public and private schools to submit topics for discussion. To ensure inclusivity, the ministry will host in-person meetings at the ministry for local schools and teleconferences for students in island, mountainous, or remote regions.

In a separate discussion regarding ongoing student and university protests, Minister Sofia Zacharaki stated that while student demands must be heard and addressed through substantive interventions, school occupations are not a solution. She emphasized the importance of protecting the right of all students to attend classes without disruption.

Addressing educational infrastructure and student welfare, the Minister highlighted investments exceeding 733 million euros aimed at constructing new student housing and renovating existing dormitories. Additionally, she noted that funding for student housing allowances has increased from 51 million euros in 2019 to a projected 90 million euros for 2026.
