Greece Ministry of Education proposes unified university accreditation rules
The Greek Ministry of Education has submitted an amendment to strengthen the external evaluation and accreditation framework of the National Authority for Higher Education (Hellenic National Agency for Higher Education - ETHAAE). The amendment aims to establish uniform rules for the evaluation and accreditation of study programs across all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and University Legal Entities.
The regulation is included within a bill from the Ministry of Health scheduled for discussion in the Greek Parliament. According to the Ministry, the move aligns with the quality assurance requirements of the European Higher Education Area and addresses the needs of an expanding, internationalized higher education system.
The new framework will provide a unified enabling provision and common rules for the Management Regulation of the Register of External Evaluators, the Accreditation Guide, and the Code of Ethics. Transitional rules have been included to ensure that ongoing accreditation processes continue while ensuring committee members meet the requirements of the new framework.
