Greece modernizes AH-64A Apache fleet with Israeli technology

The Greek Army Aviation is currently modernizing its fleet of 19 AH-64A Apache attack helicopters. The program focuses on upgrading older electro-optical and electronic systems to extend the operational life and capabilities of these platforms.

A key component of this modernization is the integration of the Israeli-made SPIKE NLOS guided missile system. This integration aims to significantly enhance the helicopters' target engagement capabilities. A critical milestone is expected in October, with the first test firing of the SPIKE NLOS from an upgraded Apache scheduled to take place.

Work is currently underway at the base in Alexandroupoli, where Israeli technicians from Elbit Systems are collaborating with Greek Army technicians. At least five helicopters have already received new electro-optical and electronic systems. The upgrade philosophy mirrors Israeli methods used to modernize their own AH-64A Peten helicopters, transforming older airframes into highly capable, customized combat platforms.
