Greece Men's Basketball Team begins World Cup 2027 qualifiers preparation

The Greek Men's National Basketball Team has begun preparations for the second qualifying phase of the FIBA World Cup 2027. Under the direction of coach Vasilis Spanoulis, 16 players participated in the first training session.

Nikos Rogavopoulos was absent from the initial call-up due to ongoing plantar fasciitis, which requires further recovery according to team doctor Jacques Melagies. The squad includes players such as Kostas Papanikolaou, Nick Calathes, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Kostas Antetokounmpo.

Greece enters this phase with a 3-3 record. Their upcoming schedule includes a match against Ukraine in Riga, Latvia, on August 28, followed by a home game against Spain at the Telekom Center in Athens on August 31. The team will also play friendly matches against Poland on August 22 and Cyprus on August 24 to prepare for these critical qualifiers.
