Greece: New Highway Code rules for amber traffic lights

Under the new Greek Highway Code, specific regulations govern how drivers must respond to amber (orange/yellow) traffic lights. When an amber light appears, drivers are required to stop before a pedestrian crossing or at a distance where the signal is clearly visible.

An exception is made if the vehicle is already so close to the signal that stopping safely is not possible; in such cases, the driver may proceed. For flashing amber lights, which often occur during nighttime or at malfunctioning signals, drivers must reduce speed and yield priority to pedestrians and crossing vehicles.

Violating these regulations is classified as a category E1-A offense, carrying a fine of 30 euros without the revocation of a driver's license.
