Greece observes World Blood Donor Day, urging more volunteer donors

On June 14, 2026, Greece marked World Blood Donor Day, highlighting the essential role of voluntary blood donation. In Larissa, PASOK‑KINAL MP Evaggelia Liakouli praised donors as providing the "image of God" in life, stressing that blood cannot be synthetically produced and calling for increased participation to ensure sufficient supplies.

The administration of the General Hospital of Edessa also commemorated the day, thanking existing volunteers and urging citizens, youth groups, and local organisations to join the effort. Both statements underscored that donated blood is vital for patients undergoing surgery, chronic illness treatment, trauma care, and other medical needs.
