Greece announces free museum and archaeological site entry for September 2026
Greece will host various cultural events from September 25 to 27, 2026, as part of the European Heritage Days. The theme for this year is ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine,’ focusing on the challenges posed by environmental, social, and technological changes to both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
As part of the celebrations, the Greek Ministry of Culture has announced free admission to state-managed museums, archaeological sites, and monuments on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27. While most state sites offer full-day free access, the Acropolis Museum will provide free entry to its exhibition spaces specifically on Sunday, September 27, from 17:00 to 20:00.
Regional activities include educational tours and specialized programs across the country. In Evia, the Archaeological Museum of Chalkida will host digital-focused tours, while Messinia will feature guided walks at the Tholos Tomb of Avia. In Thessaloniki, the White Tower and the Museum of Byzantine Culture will offer free entry during the weekend, alongside community-focused initiatives.
