Greece offers free museum and archaeological site entry for European Heritage Days
As part of the European Heritage Days, the Greek Ministry of Culture is offering free admission to public archaeological sites, museums, and monuments on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, 2026. Specifically, the Acropolis Museum will offer free entry to its exhibition spaces, including the Museum of the Excavation, on Sunday, September 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Heritage at Risk – Revive, Resilience, Reflection,’ aiming to raise awareness regarding the environmental, social, and technological pressures facing cultural heritage.
The Acropolis Museum is also hosting a special presentation titled ‘Stories of Everyday Life in an Ancient Athenian Neighborhood.’ This program explores the lives of ancient residents through 1,150 artifacts found during the museum's construction. Scheduled sessions are available on September 25 and 26, requiring prior electronic registration.
