Greece opens voter registration for citizens living abroad

Greek citizens living abroad can now register to vote in the next national elections, which are scheduled for the spring of 2027. A new online portal has been launched through the Ministry of Interior's platform to facilitate registration for the diaspora.

Under Law 5285/2026, eligible voters can choose between voting by post or in person at designated polling stations abroad. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the importance of the reform, stating, “We established … postal voting, making participation easier than in the past.” He urged expatriates to participate, noting that the voice of a citizen abroad carries the same weight as one living in Greece.

To register, applicants can use Taxisnet credentials or a Greek passport through the official portal or via Greek diplomatic and consular authorities. Registration from previous elections, such as the 2023 parliamentary or 2024 European elections, does not automatically carry over for this purpose. Applicants must provide an active mobile number and email address and maintain updated contact details.
