Greece outlines 2030 economic strategy and investment plan
At the annual Economist conference in Athens, Greek Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos presented a vision for a more productive, export‑oriented Greece by 2030. He cited 930 investment projects worth over €3 billion, incentives exceeding €1 billion, and 91 strategic investments, including 22 major projects launched in the past 1½ years, across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, aluminium, food, shipbuilding and defence.
Vice‑President of the Government Kostis Chatzidakis reinforced the agenda, pointing to eight goals that aim to preserve recent macro‑economic successes, cut unemployment from 18 % to 8 %, create 560 000 jobs and reverse the brain‑drain. The plan emphasises artificial‑intelligence adoption, use of the EU Competitiveness Fund, tax and insurance‑contribution cuts, expanded private investment, housing and family support, merit‑based public‑service reforms and safeguards against hybrid threats.
U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis, speaking on regional security, highlighted Greece’s role as a reliable NATO ally amid tensions with Turkey over Cyprus and the broader strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean.
