Greece outlines pension boost keys and expands in‑kind employee benefits

Greek pension experts detail five levers that can raise a retiree’s pension to more than 60 % of their former salary. The keys include extending years of insurance (with a 2.55 % annual increase after 36‑40 years), the level of the national pension, the type of pension scheme (full versus reduced), purchasing missing insurance years, and the retiree’s earnings history.

Separately, Greek employers can supplement wages with ten types of in‑kind benefits that are tax‑favoured and exempt from social security contributions. These range from meal vouchers and private health or life insurance to company cars, devices, retirement‑savings plans, stock options, tuition subsidies, childcare vouchers, flexible‑working allowances and performance bonuses. The article notes that meal vouchers must meet a minimum daily value of €6 to avoid additional contributions.
