Greece Parliament approves national AI Act implementation framework

On 16 July 2026 the Greek Parliament’s plenary session overwhelmingly passed a bill drafted by the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence. The legislation, titled “Measures for the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act) – amendment of Law 4961/2022 and other provisions”, establishes a national framework for applying the EU AI Act. It creates a comprehensive oversight, coordination and support mechanism, designating responsible authorities, complaint procedures, sanctions and measures to boost research and innovation.

The law also introduces an AI Regulatory Sandbox that allows companies, start‑ups and research institutions to test AI applications under supervision. It highlights the forthcoming launch of the “DAIDALOS” supercomputer – ranked 31st worldwide – within the AI Factory “Pharos” at the National Technology Park Lavrio, and notes collaborations with firms such as Mistral and ElevenLabs, reinforcing Greece’s position among the 14 countries with next‑generation AI infrastructure.
