Greece: Parliament resumes sessions with heavy legislative agenda

The Greek Parliament is set to resume sessions following the summer recess, facing a dense legislative agenda that includes significant social and economic challenges. Key issues on the horizon include addressing the cost of living, tax burdens, and pension security.

A primary focus will be the proposed Constitutional Revision. While an initial round of voting occurred in July, the amendments require more than 151 votes in a repeat vote to proceed to a constituent assembly. The main opposition has indicated it will not support the current proposals, meaning a broader consensus will be necessary in the next stage of the process.

Additionally, the government aims to introduce legislation through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to enhance professional insurance and provide new tools for future pension savings. The autumn period is viewed as a critical test for the administration to translate macroeconomic stability into tangible relief for households regarding food, housing, and utility costs.
