Greece: PASOK leaders discuss potential coalition with New Democracy
Senior officials from the PASOK party are scheduled to hold a private meeting to evaluate post-election scenarios in Greece. As the possibility of New Democracy achieving a parliamentary majority diminishes, PASOK is being viewed as a potential primary partner for Kyriakos Mitsotakis to maintain power.
Political discussions involve complex arithmetic regarding coalition possibilities. While PASOK remains a preferred interlocutor for a coalition government, the involvement of a third party could complicate negotiations. Former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has indicated a willingness to discuss cooperation with the right-wing bloc, though he has reportedly set conditions regarding the premiership.
Meanwhile, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis addressed the ONNED Panhellenic Conference, framing the upcoming 2027 elections as an ideological battle rather than a struggle for percentages. Marinakis expressed confidence in New Democracy's continued leadership and criticized both populism and far-right movements, emphasizing the need for stable governance over radicalism.
