Greece: PASOK MP calls for policy shifts over subsidies

PASOK – Movement for Change MP Petros Pappas has criticized the Greek government's current social policies, arguing that one-off subsidies are insufficient to combat the loss of purchasing power caused by inflation. He noted that recent measures, such as payments to civil servants and pensioners, do not address the underlying issues of high costs for electricity, rent, and basic goods.

Pappas called for structural changes, including a confrontation with monopolies, stronger regulatory mechanisms, a reduction in VAT for essential goods, and more effective support for small businesses and affordable housing. He also highlighted ongoing challenges in the healthcare sector, including rising out-of-pocket costs and staff exhaustion.
