Greece pension reform bill to be submitted to Parliament

Greece's Minister of Labour and Social Security, Marinos Moutsouttas, announced that a pension reform bill will be submitted to Parliament in the coming days. The reform aims to provide more adequate and fairer pensions, with increases scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Key components of the legislation include subsidized insurance credits for specific groups, such as mothers, individuals with disabilities, students returning from studies, and informal caregivers. The reform also targets the first pillar and the Social Insurance Fund to ensure long-term system sustainability.

Projections indicate that pension increases in 2027 may range between 2.6% and 3%. A significant change involves the abolition of the personal difference mechanism, which is expected to benefit more than 670,000 retirees by allowing them to receive their full annual increase. For those with pensions exceeding 2,700 euros, annual increases could surpass 840 euros.
