Greece pension rules for parents of minor children
Regulations regarding retirement conditions for public sector employees in Greece with minor children have undergone significant changes over time. Historically, female employees could retire with 25 years of service at age 50. Following a European Court of Justice ruling (Case C-559/07) and subsequent legislation in 2011, male employees were granted equal retirement conditions under similar family circumstances.
However, subsequent laws (N. 4093/2012 and 4336/2015) modified these age limits. For parents of minor children who completed 25 years of service from January 1, 2013, onwards, the preferential retirement treatment ceased, and the general retirement age was set at 67. An exception remains for parents with a child who is unmarried and has a disability of 67% or higher.
