Greece prepares economic package for Thessaloniki International Fair

The Greek government is preparing a major economic intervention package, estimated to be worth between 1 billion and 2 billion euros, to be presented at the upcoming Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). The measures are designed to bolster disposable income for several key social groups ahead of the 2027 national elections.

Targeted beneficiaries include the middle class, retirees, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), self-employed professionals, families, and young people facing housing costs. Specific proposals under consideration include tax relief for the self-employed, reductions in social security contributions, and adjustments to the minimum deemed income system. For retirees, the package may include increased annual financial assistance—potentially rising from 300 to 400 euros—and pension increases starting in 2027.

Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis stated that the Greek economy is expected to maintain a growth rate of 2%, outpacing the European average of 0.9%. He also highlighted the National Development Program 2026-2030, which aims to mobilize 23 billion euros in national resources to ensure continued development following the conclusion of the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
