Greece introduces new parental leave regulations

The Greek Ministry of Labour and Social Security is promoting new regulations regarding parental leave and caregiver leave to help employees balance professional duties with family care.

Under the proposed framework, each parent is entitled to four months of parental leave per child until the child reaches eight years of age. This right is individual, meaning both parents can utilize it separately. A key change aims to remove the requirement for a one-year period of actual employment with the same employer between consecutive parental leaves for different children, providing greater flexibility for families.

Financial support is also a component of the reform, with the first two months of parental leave being subsidized by the Public Employment Service (DYPA). Subsidies can reach up to 1,840 euros.
