Greece plans targeted Market Pass 2026 for 200,000 households

The Greek government is finalizing plans to reintroduce the Market Pass in 2026 to assist approximately 200,000 vulnerable households facing high food prices and declining real income. The new program aims to be more targeted than previous versions, focusing on low-income families and social benefit recipients.

Under the proposed framework, the subsidy would be credited automatically to eligible beneficiaries, removing the need for manual applications via the government vouchers platform. The support is intended exclusively for the purchase of essential goods at supermarkets.

While final details are expected to be announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair, current scenarios suggest a monthly assistance model. For a single-person household, a baseline of 40 euros per month is being considered, with total amounts potentially reaching up to 1,200 euros over a 30-month period depending on household size and the final budget. The measure may also include retroactive payments dating back to the summer.
