Greece pledges €600,000 to support East Jerusalem hospitals

Greece has pledged €600,000 (approximately $671,000) to support Palestinian hospitals in East Jerusalem. The agreement was signed by the Greek Consul General in Jerusalem, Dimitrios Angelosopoulos, and the Palestinian Authority’s Minister of Finance and Planning, Estephan Salameh.

The funding will be distributed through the European Union’s Pegase program, a financial mechanism established by the European Commission to assist the Palestinian Authority in funding vital services, including healthcare and public-sector salaries. The Office of the European Union Representative in Jerusalem will implement the agreement.

East Jerusalem hospitals, such as Augusta Victoria Hospital and Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital, provide specialized medical care for patients referred from the West Bank and Gaza. Since 2013, the EU and its member states have provided more than €225 million through the Pegase mechanism to cover medical referral costs for Palestinian patients requiring treatment for conditions such as cancer.
