Greece: Political criticism of cost of living and new parliamentary funding

In Greece, political figures and parliamentary actions have highlighted contrasting approaches to social and economic issues. P. Koukoulopoulos, Vice President of the Parliament and PASOK – Movement for Change representative, criticized the Prime Minister's recent measures following the Thessaloniki International Fair. Koukoulopoulos argued that government actions fail to address the rising cost of living, which continues to erode the income of low-to-middle earners, pensioners, and workers. He further noted that small businesses and farmers remain unsupported by effective liquidity tools and resource management.

Simultaneously, the Greek Parliament has provided direct funding for local community improvements. Under the leadership of Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis, 110,000 euros were allocated to upgrade the ‘Ouranopoli’ camps in Alexandroupoli. Managed by the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupoli, these facilities host approximately 1,000 children and students annually. The funding has been used to modernize sports infrastructure, including the construction of basketball courts, maintenance of beach volleyball and football pitches, and the addition of greenery and lighting to the site.
