Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to announce a comprehensive economic support package at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). The measures, which aim to reduce tax burdens and increase disposable income, target several key groups including pensioners, employees, self-employed professionals, and farmers.

Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis highlighted three main pillars for the September interventions: income support, addressing private debt, and attracting investment. For the self-employed, the government is considering tax relief and reductions in social security contributions, specifically for those who are tax-compliant. For farmers, the package includes permanent measures to reduce tax burdens and an upgraded mechanism for subsidy payments.

Regarding private debt, a new mechanism will be activated on September 21 to protect primary residences through an out-of-court process, complementing existing debt settlement options. Additionally, the energy sector will see an 'energy escape clause' involving 1 billion euros in projects for the 2026–2028 period, focusing on renewable energy storage and building upgrades. The government also noted that the early repayment of 12.84 billion euros in debt is expected to save approximately 370 million euros annually in interest payments.
